How can I fix this problem with car batter?

I changed the car battery and now when I Connect the positive and negative wires the car turns on. The key is not in the ignition. I have a '01 Pontiac Grand Prix. What can be wrong?
How can I fix this problem with car batter?
wow, that is wierd. maybe the ignition has some sort of faulty connection or needs to somehow be reset. I'd try to find a pontiac forum.
How can I fix this problem with car batter?
this could be the security system sorting its self out. However, you say the car turns on, do you mean it actually starts?
Reply:I would look for a defective ignition switch.
Reply:Wat u mean car turns on ?/
Reply:had that happen once, trying to remember. I also looked all over the net but couldn't find anything. I would pull the starter out and see if it does it off the car. I just can;t remember.

Why hasn't the carmakers gone with the technology to turn water into gas?

Haven't you heard?? There is a water shortage
Why hasn't the carmakers gone with the technology to turn water into gas?
First of all this technology will not work on cars or everyone would have it. Second the oil companies would buy the patient to it so the would not have any competition.
Why hasn't the carmakers gone with the technology to turn water into gas?
The Earth is 77% water. You need to separate the hydrogen from the oxygen. When you burn the Hydrogen you get... guess what... WATER.
Reply:Honda actually has, they came out with a car called the FCX Clarity (http://automobiles.honda.com/fcx-clarity... and it comes out in the Summer of 2008 but it is only comming to certain cities in So-Cal because you need Hydrogen fuel stations to refuel it. There has been other prototypes of fuel cell cars but they have never been mass produced. Honda is taking a big step into this unknown market which hopefully every other car manufacterer will do too.
Reply:First of all it would cost them a lot of extra money! Second the "horsepower lovers" would not be happy with the acceleration! Third So far "total water units" are too expensive, and not totally perfected yet! 4th, - water is too cheap and too readily available, government not pushing it tilll they can figure out how to tax it!

Ever think about everybody running down to the river and scooping out all the "gas" for free, leaving nothing for the fish to swim around in??

Haven't you heard,- if water were just discovered today the US "food %26amp; drug admimistration" would not approve it because it is dangerous,- and too hard to control! Not only do people drown in it, but there is a shortage of it because of "global warming" - all the glaciers are meting and now there is not enough available anymore??
Reply:It depends on which version of the "water to gas" technology you're talking about.

If you're talking about the setup where electrolysis of water to produce hydrogen that is then stored in tanks and used to fill hydrogen-powered vehicles then there are efficiency problems to contend with. Even the best electrolysis system is only about 65 percent efficient and that means a *lot* of power is wasted.

Hydrogen is usually produced by a process called "cracking" whereby more complex hydrogarbons (such as natural gas) are broken apart by catalysts and heat and the hydrogen component is then compressed or liquified and transported to the distribution points.

It costs a lot less to produce hydrogen by cracking than it does by electrolysis so the only benefit that electrolysis has is that in some cases it may be more convenient than transporting large amounts of pressurized/liquified H2 gas.

If you're talking about those HHO generators that you see people selling on the internet then that's not being used by automakers because it simply doesn't work. It's simply a scam -- nothing more.

Lack of air coming from dash vents on Dodge Ram.?

The blower motor sounds like it is doing all it can do but there is very little air coming from the dash vents. Anyone know if there is a cabin air filter for the air conditioner. Or does anyone know what the problem might be?
Lack of air coming from dash vents on Dodge Ram.?
I don't believe U.S. cars have cabin air filters. It sounds like the air doors in your duct work are not operating properly. They are usually vacuum controlled.

Why does my car have trouble the first time I try starting it?

My 1998 Pontiac Sunfire seems to have trouble starting. After not being used for about 24 hours, the car has trouble when I turn the key to start the engine. It will start perfectly the second time, but the noises it makes in the first attempt don't fill me with confidence. I'd really rather not have to take it to a mechanic as I'm a bit short on funds right now, but would be willing to try anything on my own. My car has only been doing this for about a week or two, but I don't drive it very often.
Why does my car have trouble the first time I try starting it?
sounds like its not holding pressure. check the gas cap, gas filter and run a test on the fuel pump for pressure and voluum.
Why does my car have trouble the first time I try starting it?
If the terrible noise is a screeching grinding sound, your starter bendix is failing, or your starter mounting bolts are loose, and you are destroying your flywheel. Flywheels are very expensive to have replaced, most of the cost would be the labor though.

Mazda CX 9 Pulls to left on crowned roads??

When driving in the outside lanes of the interstates that have a crown the Mazda CX 9 pulls in the direction of the crown. Anyone else had this problem or a solution. Thanks
Mazda CX 9 Pulls to left on crowned roads??
Try my source. I hope it works for you. It probably should.
Mazda CX 9 Pulls to left on crowned roads??
sounds normal ,but you might start the basic front end alignment yourself . 1 check tire pressure 2 check brakes for a possible caliper not retracting properly .spin wheels and have someone step on the brakes ,is one tighter then the rest and not releasing?3 check tires for wear. is one worn on the outside more than the other?if all this checks good you might have the alignment done .make sure you explain to the tech aligning your car what you experience.if he dont see anything wrong ask him if he can add a little more positive caster into your alignment ,this tends to make a car go straighter and not pull as easy to unlevel road conditions.also make sure your tires dont have any broken belts before you spend any money on alignment.
Reply:Have an alignment check

Need expert response?
if there is no access door on top of the tank you will have to drop the tank to get to it.
Reply:I think it's in the tank.

I filled up my tank and carried a spare around and set my trip odometer at 0.

I drove until I ran out of gas then noted the numbers (of miles...I'm in the US).

Now whenever I fill up I set the odometer to zero and so then I know when I need to refill my tank.

Door lock wiring location?

I am looking for the wires to the door lock on a 83 Seville and can't find them. I have looked under the driver's kick panel where they should be and there is nothing there. I have tested a few wires that are the correct colors( light blue and black) under the dashboard and have had no luck.

I pulled the door panel off to find the right colors and to test for continuity and voltage through the wires so I know what I am looking for. I followed the wires and can see where they should enter the car but can't get to that spot inside the car. I tried to find where they end up under the dash but was unsuccessful.

Anybody that knows where they are or that has a pictoral image of where the wires in the car run would be all I need.

Shadow VLX600 oil: Since this is a relatively slow-revving engine can I use regular 10W30?

I've been told that unlike the "pocket rockets" that turn at over 10,000 rpm that the Shadow 600 is perfectly happy with standard automotive oil. Does anyone have information on this subject?
Shadow VLX600 oil: Since this is a relatively slow-revving engine can I use regular 10W30?
Synthetic oils should not be used in motorcycles with WET clutch (unless stated it is OK). This is explicitly stated in Valvoline website. MOBIL1 makes special motorcycle synthetic oil but NOT the regular Mobil1.

I don't know if Shadow uses WET clutch or not, so check that for yourself.

Also the synthetic oil provides few protections:

(1) resistance to high temp oil breakdown

(2) resistance to cold temp freeze

(3) resistance to sludge formation

(4) superior lubrication.

So even though the shadow may not be revving high, it ANY of the above is what you want, then it might not be a bad idea.

Good Luck...

Why do my hazards go on when I turn my left blinker on and how do I fix it myself - 1997 Jeep Cherokee?
Check for a good ground on the left rear blinker... if this is open, the voltage backfeeds through that circuit.

Try to run a ground wire from the light harness in the back to a piece of metal close by that is part of the frame.

Whats The Problem With My Transmission In My Maza MX6 1996?

I have a madza mx6 1996. The transmission has gone out twice and both times ive had it rebuilt. Now the transmission is messed up again. It does not go down to neutral ( if the car is in neutral and i hit the gas is goes forward). Even if i put the car in park and touch the gas it tries to go forward but the brakes will not allow it. It does not go out of first gear unless i put it down into the lowest gear and move it to 2nd it MIGHT change. Ive got no money to replace the transmission and was wondering if anyone knew the problem and/or a cheap fix

Will a crack in the exhaust manifold cause you to fail smog?

I live in california. I just failed the visual portion of the smog check although the car passed all emission tests. Is this correct? Is my mechanic trying to rip me off? The crack obviusly doesnt go all the way through as there is no exhaust leak.
Will a crack in the exhaust manifold cause you to fail smog?
It is bad on the valves. can allow exhaust into the cabin as well. the laws in CA are pretty tight, and not that I know the applicable law, but it seems reasonable.

Once a frame is bent on a 2002 Honda CRV, is it still good?

Has anyone had any experience with having have car frame "straightened" - and told it is just as good as un-bent? I have always understood bent frames are never good as new. Easier to re-damage in that area? Lose value to vehicle? I would very much appreciate any advice.
Once a frame is bent on a 2002 Honda CRV, is it still good?
If it was in a good frame shop, I can't see a problem.
Once a frame is bent on a 2002 Honda CRV, is it still good?
once it gets bent, it weakens the spot where it got bent, and besides i had a guy tell me once, who worked at a collesion shop, once the are straightened, they arent the same as before.
Reply:A good "frame shop" with right equipment can get it back to factory specifications, -- however some slight "wrinkling" may be apparent, as metal stretches when bent and deformed! Yes there will be a little difference in value, - because people are scared of cars that have been damaged! I know a guy that hit a tree going around 50 mph, and pickup was written off as totaled by insurance company. Howevwer it was given to him by his father just before he died (about a year earlier), - It had around 25,000 miles on it, and had engine probelms before wreck -- he spent a little over $12,000 getting it fixed up like new, - including new engine and front differential and transfer case! Now 12 years later, it still looks like showroom new, and drives like new too,-- I have driven it several times, and it is really first class! The guy is now almost blind so no longer drives it himself! (Glaucoma)! Only way possible to tell it is one that was wrecked--, is to get underneath and look at frame, couple small wrinkles apparent on right side at front of cab, -- I saw it after wreck, and frame was bent almost 90 degrees (sideways) right there! It now has close to 90,000 on it!

So if done right, it will drive right,-- and you can drive it till it dissolves! ...Nobody will ever know the difference, - unless you tell them! And after it goes through "the crusher" at end it wil be "all wrinkles" anyway!
Reply:it will never be good as new because its like a paper clip if you make it straight then bend it back it wont work like a paper clip nor will it look the same it will work but wont be back to perfect and it will bring value down and it will also be weaker int hat area

Mercury villager 1994 location of A/C orifice?

I am looking for the A/c orifice in the condenser/evaporator line on a 1994 Mercury village with an auxiliary A/C unit.
Mercury villager 1994 location of A/C orifice?
On line coming out (near bottom) near the cannister by heater box, - (the thingy that always was sweating while a/c was working)! Is about 3 inches from heater " box" at firewall (called a plenum)!! There are 2 lines about 3/8 inch in diameter tied together with metal piece with a screw thorugh it holding it together! Come back toward front of engine about 6-8 inches, and you will see fittings there (2 different sizes 11/16 and 7/8 as I remember)! Hold these fittings securely to prevent bending tubing, _ -- you will see that the one going towards firewall has a "reduction in size"--the orfice and "finger screen" are in there! This is located on the"high pressure" line, (smaller line coming from the compressor). Of course you have to evacuate the system, -- and it is sometimes hard to remove screen from the tube- use anything that you can hold on (possibly a hook)-and pull out --if needle nose pliers aren't able to grip it enough!

And if there is a bunch of the dessicant from the cannister in there plugging it up, - then the cannister needs rerpalced too!

Contrary to what manual says you don't need all the equipment they say! It is a "critical charge system", - the exact reason why you are now needing work,-- (it is the cheapest working system available) -- and will need much work in future as you use the vehicle during it's lifetime!.... 1/2 pound too much or too little "freon " will make the unit inoperative!

Once system "pulled down in vaccuum", - you can charge system with only "low side hookup and no gauge if it is nescessary, -- gauges are nice, - but system will tell you when it it s full! I did theis by observation and experimentation, and actually got better results than going by the book with "calibrated" meassuring system etc! You see, the vehicles aren't always textbook" all the time, the hoses may be a litttle longer, and a little bigger inside , - and in case of vans with second system put in rear, - that really messes up calculartions!

So here's what you do,-- you start engine, turn a/c on "full blast", open all the doors, , - and block pedal on gas down, so it runs about twice (or a little more) faster than regular idle... (this makes compressor run fast enough to put out full performance! Now you start adding freon (R-134A)-- you may have to remove plug on "low [pressure switch" (if so equipped), and short between terminals to make compressor run for a while -- till pressure comes up enough to hold it closed! The compressor will "short cycle" very rapidly till you start getting near full, -- then it will start staying on longer and longer -- till it is around 45 seconds , -- shut off flow of freon for a couple minutes and allow compressor to cycle 4-5 times to equalize pressures! Now watch top of cannister and see condenstation forming (because of cold), -- add freon till you reach 60 seconds, stop and wait for a while-- watch top of cannister, - it will "flash frost" on top when it is working the coldest it can possibly get! --- beyond this point the compressor will start running shorter times again! This is how you can tell it is overcharged! If you continue adding freon, it will shorten down to short "run cycles" of clutch again, -- just like when it was out of freon! As to the condensation, --if really low himidity day,- it may not have any water in air to condense! You can put a little on it to watch, -- or do as I always did, just hold palm of righ thand on it, -- when it becomes unbearable to hold it there anymore you are pretty close to freezing!

I leaerned this in the mid 70s when they first came out on Gm vehicles! I worked for a Midwest a/c distributer that covered 4 - 5 states, - we installed "'after-market" units on new cars, (as they worked better than factory ones)!! And as shop foreman, and service manager I had to be the "in-resident expert" when all these dealers could not get this "new-fangled stuff" to work! We had them hauling them if for better than 500 miles to get them fixed (we made a bunch of money in a couple years)!!

If the auxiliary unit has same kind of unit, - it will look about the same but be near the unit itself (but in rear of vehilcle) I guess, -- if you are lucky the rear unit will be much better unit than the front and have a"thermal expansion valve"! This then would be an "old fashioined unit" , which is entierely different! I can't say exactly, as I have been out of that line of work for years (except on my own stuff)!

Car help???

I am a GIRL who knows jack about cars. I went to start my car and it would not start. So I turned on the ignition and tried to jump it with a screwdriver. I touched the screwdriver to the battery and it sparked. Ever since then it has been starting and running fine. Any thoughts on why it would not start in the first place?? And why it's fine now??

PS, it's NOT the battery, starter, or the altenator!!
Car help???
The termimals might need a good cleaning. Take it somewhere that dose this type of service.
Car help???
if you jumped across the battery terminals and it started, then your battery terminals are either loose or dirty. clean them and tighten them.
Reply:Don't do that !!

You got lucky that you didn't damage your car.

===

As to why it did not start and why it start may not be related to what you did with the screwdriver. It it was related, it was possibly because the terminal was loose (but that is a stretch).

Again, if you are not sure, just be careful, because you can easily damage the battery or worst the ECU (computer).

Good Luck...
Reply:Well sometimes the computer decides to do (not) funny things. I had a car that would turn over once and if it did not start, would do nothing for a few minutes then allow me to start it. Now what you did is dangerous, one had there been any battery vapors (hydrogen) it could have exploded. The best thing to do is, like another answer said, clean the battery posts and connectors there are inexpensive tools for that and you can use them many times. You can also use a small wire brush to clean the terminals. To do that you would first remove the negative connector it is black and has a – next to it, then the positive connector it is red and has a + next to it. This cleaning will do two things for you, one the terminals are clean and two the computer will reset to its original settings and if the starter has been disabled, this might reset it. Now once you are done with the “cleaning” attach the red one first and only tighten it snugly! The terminal is made of lead and that is a soft material that the threads can be stripped out in. then reconnect the negative and try to start it again. Hope this helps you out……………………

86 Iroc Z Fuel tank over pressurized, fuel pump whines in tank.?

I have an 86 Iroc Z and I have already replaced my fuel pump because it completely burned out. The new Bosch fuel pump is now whining in the tank because the tank is over pressurized. Sounds like I have a dying owl in my tank. Happens more frequently when its hot. So as long as im not driving very far for too long then everything is fine. If its a hot day then after a few miles the pump starts to whine and I have to pull over and open the cap, every few miles. I asked around for the vent and not even the dealer could get me one. Nappa had no Idea what I was talking about untill i had the guy crawl underneath the car to show him. I was also told by some part stores the there is no vented cap for my car, but nappa said that there was. Im confused and I would like to be able to drive over 50 a a day. other than that the car runs great. What has been done to solve this tank vent? should I close the line and get a vented cap, or just take the little plastic vent off and leave it open???
86 Iroc Z Fuel tank over pressurized, fuel pump whines in tank.?
Before you do anything...check with your local DMV and see if vented fuel caps will pass inspection where you live. But if you care, a vented gas cap is really, really bad for the environment since you end up venting unburned gas into the air.

Thanks slick, everything is hooked up. although the car is a 1997 2.5 liter and the transmission from a 2000?

would that have caused the problem. The car ran perfect before I replaced the tranny. Could the TCM or PCM be at fault? The car starts right up but it doesn't have enough power to move.
Thanks slick, everything is hooked up. although the car is a 1997 2.5 liter and the transmission from a 2000?
Shouldn't, when you say the car doesn't have the power to move do you mean the engine bogs down and dies out or the engine revs but the car doesn't really move?

Let me know.

What parts do I need to fix my oil burning 98 Toyota Corolla? I am doing it myself and have plenty of time.?

I know about needing a compression kit to test the piston rings, a PCV valve, and valve seals %26amp; gasket. Is there anything else that I may need for the job? Are there alternatives to doing this (such as a new or used engine or anything else)? How much would something like this cost at a typical mechanic?
What parts do I need to fix my oil burning 98 Toyota Corolla? I am doing it myself and have plenty of time.?
just buy a reco motor and fit it its the easiest way
What parts do I need to fix my oil burning 98 Toyota Corolla? I am doing it myself and have plenty of time.?
I'd go for a rebuilt short block and change over your parts to the new block.
Reply:a comp. check not only checks rings, it will also let you know if you have a burnt valve, leaking head gasket, etc. the test will tell you if you have a leak in the combustion system. which could be alot of different things or a number of things combined. i would try using some cyl. fix. ie: rislone, or any other brand of sealer. you didn't say if it smokes when you start it or smokes under hard exceleration, so it could be alot of diff. things causing your prob., try to be a little more detailed when you ask something like this. it will help alot ,getting to the route of your prob. here in va. a used engine at a junk yard runs around $150.00 to $300.00 and you pull it yourself, be sure you get to hear it run before you buy, you might get something worse than you have. good luck!
Reply:Toyota 4 cylinder engines from about 95 to 02 were bad about burning small amounts of oil, if the oil consumption is excessive then the piston rings could be worn but its most luckily to be the valves seals seeping oil into the combustion chamber, valve seals are much easier to replace, running a compression test is helpful to know the wear on the engine, the compression should be about 85 to 100 psi
Reply:ok if theres no blue smoke coming out of your exhaust its not your pistons..to check if its your valve seals check to see if you have oil inside your spark plug holes if you its the seals,if you dont it can be your head gasket.....

EDIT.. ok you have to change your head seals then ...the reason you have more in that certain one is because the seals get hard over time n let small amounts of oil get in and its going inside your cylinders and that one is probally really worn out.. this must be fixed asap..what u have to do is go to an autopart store n buy the valve cover seal kit..it comes wit all the seals ... then u open ur valve cover..u take out ur spark plugs its best if u get new ones..u leave the spark plugs off put a rag in top of the seal otherwise itll b messy as hell...u crank the motor and all the oil inside those chambers wil come out...ur going to notice ALOT of smoke coming out of ur exhauts thats normal...so one the chambers are cleared u put the new spark plugs in and put in the new rubbber seals...put back the cover..and the problem should be solved u might see some smoke out of the hood thats from the oil still around ur engine bay but nothing to worry about

Reply:Depends on what you want in results, for a real good shine go with lacquer; it dries quickly, easyly buffed to a shine and is not much bother. If you have some time on your hands go with an enamel, both of these come in spray cans and are fairly cheep in cost鈥︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€︹€ut you have to be 18 or older to buy them.

Burnt out tail light?

I drive a 2000 jeep grand cherokee, recently the tail light went out on the left side so i replaced the bulb. The break light was still working when the tail light went out, and still works now after changing the bulb, but the tail light wont remain lit when my headlights are on at night. The brake light and tail light are the same bulb but the tail lights wont stay on... is it somethign with the wiring, how much does something like this cost to fix?
Burnt out tail light?
check the fuse to the running lights. the running light and the brake light areon seperate fuses.
Burnt out tail light?
Sounds like a simple wireing fault. Start by checking all the wires that connect to the light and bulb, make sure there is no corrosion and it is getting a good contact.

Next it could be a faulty earth at some point in the wireing...that could be harder to track down.

Cars use what is called a negative earth, basically the chassis of the car carrys the negative current from the battary while the positive is carried by wire.

At various points around the car your wireing harness will be connected to 'earth' (the chassis) and a bad connection at any one of these points can cause problems like this.

What is the best way to spray on metallic paint with a spraygun/compresser getting the paint to go on even?

get a professional to do it. if you do it yourself you will have runs.
What is the best way to spray on metallic paint with a spraygun/compresser getting the paint to go on even?
go to a pro..not worth the risk of your whip looking like ****
What is the best way to spray on metallic paint with a spraygun/compresser getting the paint to go on even?
Smooth even strokes, start spraying before you begin the sweep of the panel by pressing the triger half way and then all the way.

Continue to spray past the panel and release, then do the same on the way back.

You want a 50/50 cover pattern, that is the say as your spray one way, on your way back you should be covering half of the paint you just put down, and so on.

That should get the paint on even. Make sure your ground coat / primer is smooth and even first however or it will all go wrong.

If your using a 2K paint and your first coat looks bad then you need to flat it back and start again.

With 2K dont spray a dry coat first, put it on wet.

The dash lights on my 1993 Subaru Legacy don't work, and I can't figure out why. What can be the causes?

I recently purchased a 1993 Legacy from a mechanic to use for trips back and forth around town for computer repair. The car is old, and has high miles - 210,000. However, it runs very nice and I got it for next to nothing, so I like it. The only problem, however, is that the dash lights don't come on at night when I use the headlights. None of the guages light up, nor does the climate control or the indicators on the gear shift. Since none of these light up, it leads me to believe it's either a blown fuse or something more complicated, because it'd be a little too coincidental that all the bulbs in all those places would blow out. And yes, I've checked the dimmer switch. :-P I've checked all the fuses and they're all intact - can anyone help me out as to what may be the problem? I'm not sure if there's a board or anything that controls these lights, but I'm willing to get one from a junkyard to be able to see at night. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
The dash lights on my 1993 Subaru Legacy don't work, and I can't figure out why. What can be the causes?
May have been a burned fuse, like you said. They're pretty cheap, try replacing and see what happens, just to knock that out as an option.

If it is 15 years old, and highly used, it may be a connector knocked loose, or depending on how the circuitry is wired, if one of the bulbs go out, they all go out?

I still lean towards the fuse, but....

Is there any other simple on-off controls you're missing? If so, are these connectors loose?

Check under the board and dash for lose connectors, (or even something somebody ELSE may have disconnected for whatever reason.
The dash lights on my 1993 Subaru Legacy don't work, and I can't figure out why. What can be the causes?
not being a smart a**, but are you sure they're not just turned off? look for the simplest things first.
Reply:I believe that there is a grounding problem with the dash board lights. Run a test wire to the dash board frame from a solid ground. Best of luck.

I turn the key to "on" and there is power, but when I turn the key to "start" everything dies, no power. Help?

After I try to start it and it dies, nothing will even come back on when it is in the "on" position. It is a 91 Mazda 4 door, 213k miles. Manual trans.
I turn the key to "on" and there is power, but when I turn the key to "start" everything dies, no power. Help?
low or dead battery................how old is it, if it is over three years old, you need to replace it, it may support all of the other functions but a starter takes the most power a battery can put out
I turn the key to "on" and there is power, but when I turn the key to "start" everything dies, no power. Help?
Does it have an immobiliser? if so that could be the issue.

What kind of power is the battary giving out? If you have a multimeter check that its got a decent charge of above 12v.

While your doing that its worth while testing the other electric parts while you or a friend trys to start the car as this can lead you to the point thats stopping the car from starting.

With out more information it really is just trial and error.
Reply:Sounds like either a bad connection at the battery or possibly a switch issue.. Most likely a bad connection at one or both cables at the battery. Clean the cable ends and try to start it. If this doesn't help, then the batery may be low on charge. Either jump start the car or have the battery charged.

Hope this helps
Reply:I believe that it has to do with the starter or starter solenoid.

1998 Crown Victoria Valve Chatter?

1998 Ford Crown Victoria LX 4.6L Use 89 Octane BP, Shell, Chevron gas. When the engine is under stress(acceleration or going up incline) the engine sounds like the valves are chattering. I can increase the rpm's and the chattering goes away. Had the same problem with 95 Thunderbird 4.6 and have heard other ford cars going down the road with this problem. Air leak? Don't really want to use higher octane due to gas prices and possible engine damage. Also, in the thunderbird, i used a bottle of octane boost and the next day a valve spring broke. Was the octane boost a possible cause?

Idle question on honda?

after my prelude has been driven for about 10 mins the idle becomes really low like riiight above the 0 ..and coming off a stop it'll take alot of acceleration to get it past 2000 rpm n the exhaust would make an obnoxious sound like rattling..anybody have any idea what it could be?

Why do a 1990 Chevy Lumina and Grand Prix, with the same engine, stall?

Both cars have the same engine, the Chevy Lumina is mine, the Grand Prix is owned by a friend of mine. The Lumina just had most of the sensors replaced (crank, throttle position, etc.) and has been doing this for quite a while. Both cars will start and run fine if you take out the fuse for the computer for a few minutes and put it back, but as soon as you give it gas, it starts acting up again and cannot go more than 15-20 MPH. The Grand Prix started acting like this about a month ago and is now about as bad as the Lumina. Any ideas?

2002 Ford Focus Bad Mileage?!?

drive my Car from work and back, a few stops at light but im running anywhere from 210-235miles on a full tank, my car usally fills up at roughly 10gallons, so thats 21-23mpg.. ?? Why am i getting such poor results.. I recently cleaned the MAF intake, and put a new air filter in, and Fuel filter I also used Fuel system cleaner, and I have a whole new Fuel system with brand new Fuel injectors.. No air leaks I see at all either.. What could be causing this?? I should get 27-31+mpg

107,000miles

What can i do to increase.

I took spare tire out of trunk, to reduce weight, got new tires, new Shocks, new coil springs, new ball joints.. new Max life 4000 Mile oil change! WTH! lol help
2002 Ford Focus Bad Mileage?!?
Drive slower, less heavy acceleration. read the road, less braking
2002 Ford Focus Bad Mileage?!?
Ask NPR's car talk. npr.com. If you can't find them there try national public radio.
Reply:you might want to try a tune up, plugs, wires and such. and you might want to go with a higher grade of gasoline. there are more and more additives everyday in fuel and it seems to make efficiency go out the window. Also it may just be getting clogged up from the trip only to work and back, take it on a nice long drive and run the crap out of it. Im not saying to set any land speed records but run it like you stole it!!!!
Reply:I'm thinking maybe your car is just in bad shape...I mean c'mon its American made, what do you expect? lol! Well everytime you fill up...(or once a week)...get that gas cleaner stuff and put it in your tank before you fill up. That should help out with your gas milage. Also, when you are driving in town put it in overdrive. Another thing, when you accelerate do not slam on your gas, ease it, that just wastes gas. Another thing, in the summer...if you actually have a working air conditioner only use it when you are driving over 55mph. When you are driving under 55mph (or in town) put your windows down. Because a/c uses up some of your gas. If you are driving on the highway and your windows are down the air resistance is pulling back on your car and using more gas then you need. I have no idea what would be wrong with your car since you said you use that fuel cleaner, and you got all this stuff fixed. I just have to say your car is probably made with this kinda mileage. Go for a foreign car! But take my advice with the overdrive and the airconditioning. It really helps, especially the over drive, I've saved alot of gas doing that.
Reply:replace your timing belt if you haven't already done so. After 90k miles the timing belt tends to stretch and doesn't keep engine timing stable as it could on a newer belt.
Reply:well first off if your putting all that cash into your car to get a few more mpg its not worth it..get a new whip if your so upset about it
Reply:Every driver will get a different mileage reading, as it depends on your driving habits. Fast starts, ( I don't mean screeching tires, just fast starts) waiting till last minute to apply brakes, driving at steady speed, sudden burst of speed to pass, and different road conditions all have a bearing on fuel mileage.

Did you get the car new? and if so, what was the mileage then?

A set of new plugs might also help, and of course the condition of the transmission, is the fluid lever correct and is does is slip on take off?

If all else fails, and other cars of the same make and model are getting as you say around 30mpg or so, then a new computor might be the answer.

I had a 91 Aerostar and the gas mileage was terrible, about 15 mpg, and regardless what was done it didn't change, until I put in a junk yard computor, alas, 22mpg, I lost a little umph on take off, but very little and the car ran much better.
Reply:..try this... catalitic converters have an annoying subtle way of puuggin up after a few thousand mile, with stuff it hasnt compltly burnt.... next time yur at a stop, dont shift out of first gear for a ways, a 150 yards or so, and reve the RPM's up and let the engin compression blow the crap out of the converter...

You will notice an improvement in performance promptly, and your milage shuld improve as the converter gets it's functions back to some what near it's intended range of functionality.

Drivers who run these newer engins at low RPM's all have simmular complaints. This is as realistic a way of cleaning a converter as there is... it's cheep too, comparitively speeking.

I have a kobalt digital 10gal. air compressor, needs repair, where can I take it near bham alabama?

Check with Lowes and with Walmart. They sell those products and probably can help you get in touch with a repair center.

1990 subaru legacy 2.2 4wd overheats?

This is after a head gasket job. No coolant leaks, but engine overheats in under ten minutes on a cool day.

I have read suggestions to bleed the coolant system-how do I do that (i see a cap on driver's side coolant hose--do I just take that off to release pressure--do I do this while the engine is running?).

Also, I am not sure if the thermostat is in backwards (but I copied the picture in the Haynes manual).

One of the two rad fans doesn't work. Is having only one rad fan enough to cause the overheating?

Finally, how do you tell of the water pump is working properly--I wouldn't want to do a big job if this wasn't the problem.
1990 subaru legacy 2.2 4wd overheats?
I am sorry ,the guy that is your mechanic is a moron ,it has never been the head gasket look for a new mechanic,

tell him to look for thermo sensor ,themostat, fans speeds ,radiator cap, and coolant reservoir system .

NEVER replace any part till you KNOW the problem. Stop all this guess work and take your car to a RADIATOR SHOP, not an auto repair, and get the radiator cleaned.

Coil burning up on tractor gasoline motor?

ok this tractor has a gas powered engine it has been converted from two 6 volt batteries to one 12 volt battery but the problem is the coil is burning up he replaced it and it burnt again wut is the problem
Coil burning up on tractor gasoline motor?
the coil should be 12 volts.

the alternator and regulator should be 12 volts also.
Coil burning up on tractor gasoline motor?
you have to convert the entire system over to 12 volt, not just the batteries. Just because it was using 2- 6 volt batteries does not in any case mean that it is a 12 volt application. you are running too many volts to the coil. Go back to the 6 volt batteries or convert the electrical system over to 12 volt.
Reply:Get one of those old Chrysler ballast resisters and put it in the line to the coil. This cuts it back down to 6 vdc. If it gets hard to start, put a direct 12 vdc line from the starter button to the coil. This will start on 12 for a few secs and run on 6.

I have a 91 acura legend with an issue....?

I recently changed the spark plugs and did a compression test, the 3 drivers side valves are testing at 130, 180, and 160. Should be no lower then 200. The pasenger 3 are testing 200, 180, 210, but those had oil on the old spark plugs. i had no oil to test the 3 that were low but i suspect that the problem is just the rings and not the valve itself. Does anyone know if i have to take out the motor to replace the rings or if i can get to them with the motor still in place? I'm a do it myself type person and any shop will chop my face off with labor to do it. The motor is strong and runs good it's just getting like 12 mpg on PREMIUM!! ouch. Is it most likely from the engine loosing compression?
I have a 91 acura legend with an issue....?
I do not think is the rings,I incline more on the valve's seats. and the stem seals.

specialy on the cylinder that is making 130 psi.

beside there is too much difference in pounds among the cylinder.(rocker arms calibration?)

What are the best brake pads on the market?

hello

I need to get an inspection by the end of this month and surely know that i won't pass due to my brake pads. they're OEM brake pads for Kia Optima 2004, and not really satisfied with them.

Could anybody tell me one what brake pads are good for just regular sedan? budget-about 50-70 bucks.......
What are the best brake pads on the market?
Raybestos is great if you can find them. The key is to get the Semi-Metallic pads and get the longest warranty pads. You will need to get your rotors/drums turned in the process. Front brakes are a lot more critical, if you have to cheap out, do it on the rear wheels, not the front.

Hope this helps.
What are the best brake pads on the market?
Remsa gold brake pads should suffice quite nicely, or akebono ceramic pads ( a bit more cash ). good luck
Reply:Brembo, however you can get by with OEM product or the ones done by the franchised muffler/brake companies.
Reply:Most brake pads are made the same with the difference being in the pad's composition(ceramic or metallic). You can buy Raybestos for a little bit more or you can buy a cheap set and get the same results. Just make sure there is some kind of warranty with the pads.

How do take action against a car dealer?

I bought a 2003 Honda odyssey in Aug 07. Transmission just broke down and cost me $3200. I found out that it was involved in an accident and the transmission fluid was burnt. According to the crooked dealer on eBay, it was in immaculate condition and everything was checked. I want him to pay for repair. He doesn't reply to my phone calls or emails. I like to take action against this fraud dealer for false advertising. What should i do.
How do take action against a car dealer?
You have no case. You bought the car as-is and obviously elected (unwisely) to not have it inspected prior to purchase. It has also been nearly a year since this took place. You are out of luck. ADDED.......This is not even close for being eligible for the "lemon law". That only applies to NEW cars. The person who implied it would is wrong.
How do take action against a car dealer?
sorry to hear that but that is what happens when you buy a car without looking at it first hand. when you paid your money thru ebay, paypal whatever you agreed to take the car as it was with no regrets. You might be able to proceed with the "lemon law" but that will require a lawyer. They probably wont take the case as you have had the vehicle for 8 plus months. Sorry and good luck
Reply:You need to get sworn statments that wil lback up your complaint. If you are in the same state, you can file a suit. If you are accross state lines, the amount isn't large enough to get the attention of the federalies (usually). You may be able to get some action through Ebay, but that's not likely either. You may have to consult a lawyer.

That's why I quit buying on Ebay, etc. It's just too easy to get ripped off. I absolutely don't recommend it on major purchases.
Reply:abu z, I'm not too knowledable when it comes to auto repair. Last year I had an accident with my Nissan Murano and I wasn't sure how to fix them. I tried to search the web for help, but the procedures were way too complex for my skills. I ended up going to the dealship for my repairs. The dealership tends to charge more than mom and pop repair shops, but they've seen all sorts of situations ( insurance problems, repair warranty issues, etc) and they seem to always find a way to help me. Maybe you can try calling auto repair shops in your area to see if they can help you. http://www.autorepairshoplocator.com

Is it possible to change to transmission of an automatic car to manual?

im thinking about getting a charger but i would love it if it is manual.
Is it possible to change to transmission of an automatic car to manual?
it is possible, but will be much cheaper if you buy an original manual one...
Is it possible to change to transmission of an automatic car to manual?
buy an standard shift car,you will end up with money in Your pocket.instead expending.
Reply:it would depend on whether or not you could get a manual transmission from the factory. If you couldn't it would be a royal pain in the *** if at all do-able.
Reply:Of course, but I'm sure it would be a bad move. All those bits and pieces add up like crazy.

How Do You Adjust The Blow Off Valve On A Turbo Unit So That It Makes A Louder Noise?

I'm just curious.

It's a Mitsubishi turbo.
How Do You Adjust The Blow Off Valve On A Turbo Unit So That It Makes A Louder Noise?
Leave something like that to a professional, you can burn your motor up messing with that.
How Do You Adjust The Blow Off Valve On A Turbo Unit So That It Makes A Louder Noise?
The turbo is probably not able to run at a high enough pressure to get a real good blow-off.

A friend of mine got pretty good sound because his turbo was able to push over 20 PSI. With premium fuel, he was only able to run it at about 10 PSI. On the other hand, his engine was rebuilt and fortified for racing to handle that much additional power.

I have a 289 v8. would it make much difference if i bored it 30 over.. and just kepped everything stock..?

you arent going to notice a difference with just doing a .030 overbore and leave the rest stock. it will be like a fresh stock 289
I have a 289 v8. would it make much difference if i bored it 30 over.. and just kepped everything stock..?
if everything is kept stock you will notice a bit of an improvement

mainly because it is rebuilt, everything is new and not worn down and sealing properly...

as far as from the extra size ... not that you will notice
I have a 289 v8. would it make much difference if i bored it 30 over.. and just kepped everything stock..?
If you are going to bore the engine, Why stop at .030? I do not mean to offend you by that, but if you wanted to feel the difference, then bore it out, so you have that part done, and you can move on to other mods, if you wish to make mods. If you do not wish to make mods, then I would just go with what you have. If you just want something to drive, I would use what you have, so you do not have to make any other changes. There is nothing wrong with .030 (my car is .030 because thats what the engine was when we got it.) but if you want performance, just as well go all the way.

Why isnt my nissian murano shifting into gear when it gets hot?

the automatic transmission fluid do not compress the same when is hot (not hydraulic pressure ,not shifting)

If my car was repaired because of a car accident and the parts were purchased directly from the manufacturer ,

are those parts supossed to come with an original label from the manufacturer?
If my car was repaired because of a car accident and the parts were purchased directly from the manufacturer ,
depends on who repaired it.

If it was the dealership .yes

If it was an insurance thing ..probably not( lower cost)
If my car was repaired because of a car accident and the parts were purchased directly from the manufacturer ,
What type of label do you mean? Yes if you're talking about a larger part, but maybe not if its smaller. some of the smaller parts on cars aren't made by the OEM so when you order it it may not actually be from the factory but it would come from the warehouse where the factory would get it from.
Reply:Usually. Please note, tht those parts may have been manufactured over seas and be from a 3rd party or "OEM" manufacturer. They are commonly called "Original" because they are made within standards of the "Original Equipment Manufacturer". to me it's just another kind of fraud, but I have gotten used to being lied to, this being an election year and all....

Jumping car may have lead to possible short...?

I went out to my car today (2004 Nissan Altima 2.5S) and discovered the battery dead. I jump started my car with my Grandmothers car (2007 Honda Accord V6) and managed to get my car started. After a few minutes having my car run to recharge the battery, I disconnected the jumper cables and was startled and dropped the cables to the ground. My car then sparked and shut off. I tried to restart the engine, and all of the lights and radio began flashing and making clicking noises. I reconnected the car, and tried to jump it again, but this time it seems completely dead, and the only thing that happens is it clicks and the interior lights flash. My father seems to think the battery may be bad, but I being the pessimist I am believe it to be far worse than that. If we are unable to start the car in the morning, it will be towed to the local service station for repair analysis, but I figured before then, YAHOO!! Answers would be the place to check!

Check your main fuses under the hood.
Jumping car may have lead to possible short...?
...hmmm never heard of that happening before i use to spark my cables all the time to test if they are good... Not the best i know.... but now i think i will never do it again... HOWEVER it may be possible that it overloaded a cell in your battery. dead cell means it won't start, i just had to replace my battery because of that. but hey, what do i know....

^listen to him before me, i forgot about the fuses :p

The main fuses would be in a box under the hood, it should be black and plastic. however on the nissan some of the cars have the boxes under the steering wheel. Check the Manual for that... or because i have nothing better to do at work i will look 4 ya..

..after searching i find nothing.. sorry bro...
Reply:BATTERY MAY BE FRIED. TRY NEW BATERRY. IF NEW BATTERY DOESNT WORK, MAIN COMPUTER.MAYBE ALL FUSES AND RELAYS
Reply:look for a open fuse.

and before to jump it again ask yahoo how to do it right.
Reply:Hmm.. well first off, your not sapposed to have your radio on when you jump/charge your car.. most people dont know that, but that can mess up your radio.. can short that out.. just thought i'd let ya know bout that... as far as the other fuses, they will be in a black box, it will be shown in your user manual, so look for where it is placed in there. That would be the easiest. Check for a blown fuse, and make sure to replace it with the same size fuse. Also check inside your vehicle to check to see if you blew any of those fuses as well. Best of luck!

Question on painting a car?

So I accidentally hit somebody's car while it was in the parking lot, and I scratched their bumper. Their bumper is the only place where there is any scratches.

I am looking up prices for painting cars and they are absolutely rediculous....thousands of dollars.

Is it possible for the bumper to be restored without everything else painted over as well? The person's car is a 96 typical joe-shmoe sedan. I can't afford to pay a couple thousand dollars for this...especially considering that a couple thousand dollars must be half the price of the actual car.
Question on painting a car?
yes it is very possible to do just the bumper, problem is will it match, is their paint faded? Might be able to paint the bumper and buff the remainder of the car out, or might be able to find a used bumper the same color at a junkyard
Question on painting a car?
depending on the paint job on the car, if its faided, etc. you souldn't need to paint the whole car, just have the bumper painted to match the rest of the car, .....take the car to a body shop and get a real est. sounds like the people want a new paint job and want you to pay for it. i think your getting shafted myself. i'll bet if you have there car painted, there going to sell it, and make a profit from your wallet. GO TO A BODY SHOP!!!
Reply:yeah scuff the whole bumper with a grey scotch bright pad to remove the clear coat, paint the scratches and re clear it would only cost me about 100 bucks if you get the paint, most small body shops will sell you just a little if you ask them.
Reply:tell them to get 3 estimates for repairing the bumper. you only have to pay the lowest one. on a car that old, chances are they just want the money and won't fix it. but it may cost you 3 to 4 hundred bucks. no court will ever make you pay to paint the whole car, so don't be intimidated.

Re-Charging Air-Conditioning on 2001 Passat?

I just bought a recharging air-conditioning for dummies, and I have done a recharge before but on a 97 Saturn. I found what I believe to be the low-side port that it needs to plug into and when I try to plug it in it appears as if i does not fit and it sprays the coolant from the port all over the place. Am I doing something wrong or is does the gauge that I have not work on my car?
Re-Charging Air-Conditioning on 2001 Passat?
If the ports don't match, quit trying something is definitely not right. Make sure your compressor is free and the expansion valve works. If it doesn't take the charge, most likely expansion valve.

yes , go to a wrecking yard find the same year car as yours, with the engine in place and buy everything from the wiring to the motor mounts and exhaust manifolds and throttle connections

My car wont start?

1993 honda civic.... i give it a full tune up, checked all the

fuses(under the hood and dash), i get spark from wires, i get air,

i get fuel... battery is new... spark plug gap is correct ( engine

d16y8..so gap is .044)... and it still wont start...
My car wont start?
perhaps it's a problem with the alternator or the ignition it's self.
My car wont start?
the starter needs replacement

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...
Reply:..it's elecrical... ignition, probably. Pull a plug wire and see if there's spark to the plug...if not, check the distributor inside ...

is there an elecrical 'attachment' on the distributor?.. if so, replace it and see if it fires up.
Reply:how is the fuel pressure, is you timing belt ok?

car engines work on intake, compression, ignition , exhaust

if everything is there it will run, so go back and check

do you have compression, fuel, ignition, etc
Reply:well maybe it is your starter. if there is a click then there is not enough power going to the starter. if theres no click then there is no power going to the starter. your engine should still turn over even if the specs are not correct.if the engine does not stay on then check the distributor. those are some ideas
Reply:an engine needs spark, fuel, and compression to run. is it out of time?

Where can i find out where a speed sensor is located on a 2007 nitro?

besides going to a dealership?

is there a website with the information?
Where can i find out where a speed sensor is located on a 2007 nitro?
why you need to know on a 2007 is smthing wrong with it?
Where can i find out where a speed sensor is located on a 2007 nitro?
if its on a 2007 far as i know most of them have a failsafe ie limp home mode that will engauge when something goes wrong with it if yer getting the wrong speed on yer car chances are its cuse you got wrong size tires most people dont know this but the bigger the tire or even the smaller the tire your speed limit will most likely read off by a small margin or even a big one

Ford Focus- Reprogramming PATS key?

I have a 2007 Focus..and stupidly lost my flip key. I bought a new one, got it cut and tried to program the key.

I was able to program the key to lock and unlock the doors but I can't get it to disable the immobiliser.

When I insert the two coded keys then the uncoded key, it will start the engine, but the light on the dash continues to flash rapidly with the new key.

When I then exit the programming stage, the key fails to operate.

Does anyone have a walkthrough on how to program the key or know what i'm doing wrong???

I want to cover every option before handing my cash over to Ford.

Thanks in advance...
Ford Focus- Reprogramming PATS key?
If you want to add a key....

**You must have two original keys to perform this procedure. If you only have one key, you WILL have to take it to the dealer to get it programmed**

1. Insert and existing (working) key into the ignition cylinder.

2. Turn the ignition cylinder ON (RUN) and back to OFF. Ignition should stay on for at least ONE SECOND.

3. Remove the existing key and, within TEN seconds, insert a second working key and turn it to ON (RUN) and the back OFF. Ignition must be in ON for at least ONE second, but no more than TEN seconds. Remove the key.

4. Insert the new key before TWENTY seconds have elapsed and turn it to ON (RUN). Leave it the ON position for at least ONE second and turn back to OFF.

5. The security light will light up for THREE seconds to indicate that the new key has been successfully programmed.

6. To program additional keys, repeat steps 1 through 5
Ford Focus- Reprogramming PATS key?
while the previous answer is correct note there are a fixed number of times you can program a key for any one vehicle. I think in Ford's case it is 9.
Reply:if the answers below dont sort it,DONT,take it to ford..try a car dealer/seller...these blokes have most likley done it in the past and may help you for a fee, cant see themdoing it for nothing but it will be cheeper than ford....
Reply:Try a company called injection correction, it will cost around 50 pounds to get it recoded

If i remove a fusible link from a circuit, will the fuses alone provide sufficient protection?

No. Think of a fusible link as a master fuse for a group of circuits. If you had a fusible link burn out to save your car, do NOT eliminate it. Replace it with another fusible link, after making sure what ever burned out the first one has been found and fixed.
If i remove a fusible link from a circuit, will the fuses alone provide sufficient protection?
As an Electrical Engineer the answer is NO!
If i remove a fusible link from a circuit, will the fuses alone provide sufficient protection?
absolutely not. That's why they put in a fuseable link to begin with. By passing or Removing a fuseable link is a good way to start a serious fire. DON'T DO IT.
Reply:usually --i have done this in the past --may depend on what you are working on----some times i took the fusible link out ---and nothing worked---all i can say is try it----worst is you'll blow a fuse---you should still have a fuse at the main fuse block---
Reply:If you REMOVE the fusible link, nothing on that circuit, or group of circuits, will work. If you BYPASS the link, you are eliminating the protection against overload for the group of circuits. While each individual circuit could be load lower than its fuse rating, the total could still be higher than the value of that fusible link, and the link is the only protection against that kind of overload. It is necessary!

What does a cold air intake do for a car?

Does it improve gas milage? Acceleration?
What does a cold air intake do for a car?
gives you more power. colder air burns better
What does a cold air intake do for a car?
yes on both i think, it cools the air thus compressing the air, this compressed air has a higher oxygen content and more explosive power when mixed with fuel and spark. So stronger engine and more efficient.
Reply:Won't improve gas mileage noticeably (maybe just a little...). Horsepower is determined by how much air/fuel mixture detonates in the combustion chamber (among other factors). Modern engines measure the air being brought into the engine, and deliver the right amount of fuel with the fuel injectors.

Cold air is more dense than hot air, so the colder the air, more air (by weight) can get into the cylinder volume. The engine senses more air, delivers more fuel. More power!
Reply:Sucks in cooler air than a regular intake. The cooler the air, the more condensed the air is which is better for your engine

(in terms of power). So pretty much it just gives you more power.
Reply:cold air intake does what it says it does it brings cooler outside air in to the engine.

cooler air has more air molecules, when ignition occurs more expanding gasses, more power

thats all they do, same as an intercooler for a turbo
Reply:it increases horsepower.

a cold air intake (CAI) will:

1. allow the engine to suck in more air due to a better (cone) shaped air filter.

2. if its true CAI and not short ram intake then the air filter will be down near the fender and the air will be cold (as opposed to warm air in the engine bay) and this will allow the air to be more dense (due to coldness) which contains more oxygen which is basically the same as getting more air.

the MAF (mass air flow) meter will tell the fuel injectors how much gasoline to add to the air depending on how much its getting in and how dense it is, and therefore your car will go faster. about 5-10HP faster.

this might give you a little better gas mileage but not much.
Reply:Cooler air is more dense than warmer air. When the air is cooler, the combustion is more complete generating more power as the fuel is burned. Unless you conscientiously drive to conserve fuel, the mileage increase is small but the horsepower gain is very noticeable.
Reply:fuel is denser at colder temperatures. Making the intake air to your engine colder in turn makes the fuel temp drop. That will produce a more complete fuel burn, better milage, response, acceleration, ect. That is why there is almost always an air cooler on a vehicle with a turbo for example, because turbo's create so much heat
Reply:It makes your wallet flatter!

Intake manifolds are heated to what ever your engine runs at on the temp gage (over 210 degrees). So even if the air is ten degrees cooler, it will be heated to 210 degrees any way.

So not-ta thing for performance or MPH.

Now a less restrictive air filter, yes that will help.

But cold air intakes (unless ram air) only make the straw longer that your engine is sucking through, and cost you money.
Reply:It just makes a sucking noise when you give it gas, buy yourself a K%26amp;N air filter that fits in your stock airbox and you will get the same results without all the noise and save yourself $100.

Will break calliperpaint work on my valve cover?

i have a 1990 integra. im looking into painting my valv cover will calliper paint work
Will break calliperpaint work on my valve cover?
Yes with out any problems,
Will break calliperpaint work on my valve cover?
What? Any kind of heat resistant paint will work if i understand your question.
Reply:powerder coating is the best way , you can get it done for about 60 $ , , pain will get warm and bubble , yes it will work but for a short time , long time and great looks , go with the powder coat
Reply:sure most any kind of will work they dont get that hot to fry paint
Reply:i dont know why it wouldn't as long as you prep the cover good with wax and grease remover followed by soap and water before paint
Reply:Yes CP will work but you don't need it. Any high temp paint will work as well as many other spray can paints. Your valve cover doesn't get nearly as hot as a caliper. I've used engine paint on valve covers before with no problems except limited choices of colors.
Reply:It should work, unless the valve covers are chrome, but then you probably wouldn't be wanting to paint them. Just make sure you have a dull and maybe even a ruff surface that the paint will stick to or else it will begin to peel off. Also I would think that caliper paint is designed for high heat so the heat from the engine shouldn't be a problem.

Hid headlighs what is the best and legal way to go with hid's?

i just bought a 2008 accord sedan, and i used 2 have hids on my lexus, i really miss them. please help!!!! they have 6000k,4000k, what do they usually have on lexus., and is it going to change the auto lamp on/off, if i put hids.?
Hid headlighs what is the best and legal way to go with hid's?
Most luxury cars (such as a lexus) have 4300k. The first thing you need is to see if you have projector headlights in your car. If you do, you can see a glass ball on your lowbeam. If you don't you should get a new headlight assembly as using HIDs without projectors will blind all incoming traffic. I would just go for a cheapo eBay HID kit. I have one, it saved me over $300 and imo works great and I have never had a problem. For the most part it is an easy install and will not effect any part of the car. I believe your car has projectors.

95 carmy putnew fuelpump, plugs., etc won't run after warmed could it be coil wireor pack or egr valve help sos
If this car has an automatic overheat shutdown system, there may be a problem with a sensor or the engine may be overheating. Check the antifreeze and thermostat. Also, there could be a small hole in a coil pack and when the engine warms up, the sparks will jump making the car run rough but shouldnt make it die.
95 carmy putnew fuelpump, plugs., etc won't run after warmed could it be coil wireor pack or egr valve help sos
My '93 Dodge Intrepid was doing the same thing... we replaced the fuel pump, the relay for the fuel pump, and coil pack. Finally, we left it at a shop for them to drive it around until it died so they could put it on the machine while it was acting up. Turned out to be the Crank Shaft Sensor. We got the part at Auto Zone for $40.00. It took my hubby maybe 5 minutes to replace it. The car has ran perfect ever since. Good Luck!!

I have a 1990 evinrude 90 horse motor trim works down but when i try to put up?

i cant get the motor to move up so i tried all 3 switches and the motor just click in the box on back of motor

what part do i need to fix this issue
I have a 1990 evinrude 90 horse motor trim works down but when i try to put up?
Had that problem before, that box in the back that is clicking is the relay control. One of those small 1in by 1in black cubes is your up control relay and it is sticking.Try it with the cover off and pin point the unit that is doing the clicking thats the up relay most likely it is sticking.un plug it and before doing so check the up relay.Once you have done that you can swich them out if it works it is the relay. The up and down relay is the same plug style. They run about 10 to 15 dollars to replace but that is the best way to check them out /

Throttle Problems?

The throttle no my Baja 49cc scooter feels like it is not "catching". It turns but the engine isn't getting any gas. What could be the problem and how can it be fixed?
Throttle Problems?
Sounds like a broken or unhooked cable ,Allyou have to do is follow the cable down to the carb and you will be able to see if it is connected or not !! Also it might be broken right at the throttle twist , either way a new cable should get you going again!! Jason
Throttle Problems?
some times there is a bracket that the cable fits through---it becomes loose or out of adjustment---also there may be adjustment nut on the cable just before the throttle on the handle bar grip----there is also a cable where it goes into the top of the carburetor--if the nut there is loose ---it will cause your problem----something is loose-----just trouble shoot all the connections---follow the cable from the handle bar down to the carburetor---

What is wrond with my 96 nissan maxima, it is making weird noises, rattle from the back, whistle from front?

When at 2k rpm or higher, there is an whistling sound coming from under the hood. There are no mods on the car at all, but it sounds almost like i had installed a new cold air intake. It begins when the car is at 1.5K at a very low sound, gets noticable at 2k and gets progressively louder, but only happens when the car is in gear. when i am driving it sounds very odd because i have never installed any mods or anything but it really does sound like a new cold air intake. As well as that problem, when i shift gears, there is a rattling noise from the back, it sounds like a mixture of a rattle and a clicking noise. It usually only ever happens when i switch gears at rpm over 3k. i have no idea what either of the problems are, please help, thank you!
What is wrond with my 96 nissan maxima, it is making weird noises, rattle from the back, whistle from front?
could be a vacuum leak or a alternator or one or the others.... id say get something like w d 40 and spray the motor while its running round your small hoses you know the top of the motor.... if you have a leak the motor will suck it in and change in sound... is a good bet thats what your hearing is a bad hose or one off.... has it been work on lately might have knock something off

My door ajar?

stays on while driving and all doors are shut tight---what is the problem---is the switch bad--out of adjustment---how do i by pass it---this is annoying to watch that light in the dash---
My door ajar?
Probably a push-button type switch in one of the door jambs is either out of adjustment, or broken. Turn the key on, and open one door at a time. Push any buttons in the door jambs (there may be more than one), and you'll see which one controls that light.

For the whistling, check for a vacuum leak. For the rattle, make sure the exhaust system isn't loose anywhere.

Daewoo Lanos Tires?

I'm searching online for a tire for my 1999 Daewoo Lanos hatchback. I've never had to buy tires so i dont know much about them.. i do know that the size/model is P185/60R14. If the orginal tire is 14 inches, do i have to get 14'' tires? Or can i get 15" or 16"?
Daewoo Lanos Tires?
ok
Daewoo Lanos Tires?
your tire size depends on your rims , if you have 14' rims you have to go with 14' tires , get somthing witha high tred life and depending on your area all weather remember you get what you pay for
Reply:P185/60R14 is about all you can use... could go taller like 195 .....cant really go wider by much id stick with the 60 and you have to use the 14 you cant change that unless you change wheels.... dont buy the cheapest tire anyone sells but do ask about it.... best to go with the mid range price tire so if you say whats your cheapest tire then say what else you have you will get a better one.... dont make sense but it works..... you get what you pay for most offen so the higher the tire the longer it will last..... which in the long run will save you money.... think of it like this 50 dollar tire 10 to 20,000 miles...... 60 to 80 dollar tire 50,000 miles... always buy a name brand tire some thing that been a round like goodyear firestone Michelin..... you cant go wrong... shop around call three places you get better ideal where to go
Reply:Think about it for just a moment.

A P185/60R14 82H tire is going to have a 14-inch diameter hole in the middle to fit perfectly around that 14-inch diameter wheel on the car.

If you buy a tire with a 15 or 16-inch diameter hole in the middle how do you expect it to form an air seal around a 14-inch diameter wheel?

What are the pros/cons of these older models?

1971 Buick Electra 225 65k

1979 Buick Limited 59k

1985 Cadillac Seville 59k

Looking for a weekend cruiser and light travel car on occasion.

Looking for advice on comfort, drive/ride feel, and dependability/ease of ownership/maintenance. Thanks
What are the pros/cons of these older models?
the 71 will be the nicest car to drive, still lots of parts available , cheap... hard on gas though if you get 20mpg you are doing good.

the 79 will be nice too but not as soft going over the bumps, the 79 probably has a buick 350 engine and it is a good engine as well, still lots of parts available cheap and you can do most of your fixes in the back yard

the caddillac is going to be fuel injected, and toward the smaller end of the scale for luxury cars, so not as nice of a ride,be aware

Avoid the 4.1 litre engine otherwise known as the 4100

it is a piece of junk, the v-4-6-8 had their fair share of problems as well but that is easier to fix with a trip to a Cadillac dealer.

I myself have a76 pontiac bonneville, about the same size as the 71 electra, these are beautiful cars to drive, and are longer than extended cab chev truck, lots of room for imagination on paint , rims and customizing.

good luck on your choice, I love big cars

Del
What are the pros/cons of these older models?
get the 71 as that will make a nice cruise car if you want to go to car cruises and will have the softest ride of the 3 and will be easy to work on, the only con is it uses a lot of gas like any old big car.

Discoloration on one headlight, how do i fix?

it dims out my headlight so they look off.
Discoloration on one headlight, how do i fix?
sign of it going bad i think or one is newer than the other
Discoloration on one headlight, how do i fix?
there is plastic renewal kits at pretty much any auto parts store , takes some elbo grease but they work
Reply:Depends on what you mean by discoloration. The plastic lenses can become discolored (yellowed) and/or cloudy with weathering and age. They will generally change together, so you may have one newer than the other. If this is your problem, buy a plastic lens polish at any auto parts store. It takes a little work, but it can restore the lens to like new condition.

How does a pneumatic temperature control system work.?

I have never had to work with a pneumatic temperature control system but have seen some working ones. The first temperature control job I was on I was removing a honeywell electronic contol system (which was the first temp control system to replace the original pneumatic controls) and replacing it with a Trane system with 581 controllers and expansion modules. Now I am on a job with Johnson Controls. The job I am currently on at Indiana University of South Bend JCI is redoing a pneumatic contol system and I wanted to know how it works. Specifically the freeze stats (low temp stats), and the zone thermostats. If you have any information on any part of the system or the whole system I would like to hear what you have to say.

Can water really be used as feul?

Yes, but first it must be approved and tested by all the government agencies. But before it can be tested you have to buy back the patents from the oil companies. Sure, in fifty years they just might use it as fuel. They could use it as fuel right now but you know how it is.
Can water really be used as feul?
Yes. This is REAL.. it DOES WORK! I have done it to my personal cars, and all of my family

members who requested.. (which was most of them!)

I recommend buying this guide since its the cheapest (29.95 instead of 35 or 60 !) and it's

the same as all the other ones. Good luck and happy saving!

Hi i have a 93 mazda 626.....2.0 engine but the thing is too small for the steam on my car plz help!!!?

My guess is that either your radiator hoses are leaking or your radiator is leaking or your heater core is leaking. The hoses are pretty inexpensive but could be a little complicated to replace. As for radiator, could get pretty expensive to repair. Personally I would rather replace it with a new one with "lifetime warranty". That goes with the heater core.

This must be fix because it is your temperature control system and you will ruining your engine if you drive your car at a danger level.

When i open my radiator it look's like clay dirt what could this mean?

could be oil in the water if its white and milky not a good sign you should have it check.... has it been run hot if so its a good bet
When i open my radiator it look's like clay dirt what could this mean?
kind of a rusty look or red georgia clay right? contamination of the system. usually happens when mixing 2 diff types of coolant are used. systems using dextron(orange stuff) have this problem often. you need to have the cooling system flushed and replaced.
