Question on painting a car?

So I accidentally hit somebody's car while it was in the parking lot, and I scratched their bumper. Their bumper is the only place where there is any scratches.

I am looking up prices for painting cars and they are absolutely rediculous....thousands of dollars.

Is it possible for the bumper to be restored without everything else painted over as well? The person's car is a 96 typical joe-shmoe sedan. I can't afford to pay a couple thousand dollars for this...especially considering that a couple thousand dollars must be half the price of the actual car.
Question on painting a car?
yes it is very possible to do just the bumper, problem is will it match, is their paint faded? Might be able to paint the bumper and buff the remainder of the car out, or might be able to find a used bumper the same color at a junkyard
Question on painting a car?
depending on the paint job on the car, if its faided, etc. you souldn't need to paint the whole car, just have the bumper painted to match the rest of the car, .....take the car to a body shop and get a real est. sounds like the people want a new paint job and want you to pay for it. i think your getting shafted myself. i'll bet if you have there car painted, there going to sell it, and make a profit from your wallet. GO TO A BODY SHOP!!!
Reply:yeah scuff the whole bumper with a grey scotch bright pad to remove the clear coat, paint the scratches and re clear it would only cost me about 100 bucks if you get the paint, most small body shops will sell you just a little if you ask them.
Reply:tell them to get 3 estimates for repairing the bumper. you only have to pay the lowest one. on a car that old, chances are they just want the money and won't fix it. but it may cost you 3 to 4 hundred bucks. no court will ever make you pay to paint the whole car, so don't be intimidated.
