Coil burning up on tractor gasoline motor?

ok this tractor has a gas powered engine it has been converted from two 6 volt batteries to one 12 volt battery but the problem is the coil is burning up he replaced it and it burnt again wut is the problem

the coil should be 12 volts.


the alternator and regulator should be 12 volts also.

you have to convert the entire system over to 12 volt, not just the batteries. Just because it was using 2- 6 volt batteries does not in any case mean that it is a 12 volt application. you are running too many volts to the coil. Go back to the 6 volt batteries or convert the electrical system over to 12 volt.
Reply:Get one of those old Chrysler ballast resisters and put it in the line to the coil. This cuts it back down to 6 vdc. If it gets hard to start, put a direct 12 vdc line from the starter button to the coil. This will start on 12 for a few secs and run on 6.
