My car seems to be making a loud screeching noise, any one know why?

It usually just does it in the damp, when it has been sitting, but its started doing in more, and when i go round bends, it doesnt do it when im going along, just when im basicly stationary. any ideas? thanks

Power steering pump?

or power steering pump drive belt.

That would do the things you describe.

as for "check your brakes" - they won't make a noise when stationery.

CV joints Knock, and not when stationery

Whats the wet got to do with a "hub bearing"

either breaks, cv joints, or hub baring
Reply:go get it checked out immediately could be breaks?, could be the engine it's self you wont know till you get it checked out!
Reply:Sounds like your brakes binding, get it checked. If it's when stationary, could be your fan belt slipping. Either way there's something that needs attention that could be a danger to you or others.
Reply:maybe one of your belts are becoming loose. Check to make sure the belts on the engine are tight. If so maybe the belt is going bad. Try buying some belt spray to stop the squeeling
Reply:brakes squeeling when still?? pulease and as for belt spray??? theres no such thing if you spray at a belt it'll start slipping and could even get damaged and come off

does the sound increase the more you rev the engine if yes its your fan belt, or the tensioners or the power steering pump

if you know what you're doing then you can put tension back in the belt or replace the tensioners or the belt if its due , if its the power steering pump check the levels of fluid in it or have it replaced by a garage you're looking at about 拢60-拢100 (depending on model of car you have) for the pump plus labour (at least 2 hours work)

if not go to a garage it'll be about 拢15 for a belt plus labour (about an hours work on most cars)

if its not the belt, then its something more serious go to a garage that you can trust and let them have a look at it
Reply:May be the problem comes under the tires and the brake or the spring is being offloaded once.
Reply:Take a look at your fan belts etc.
Reply:alternator belt could be slipping if it does it when your STATIONARY and when it's wet.

i love how so many people don't actually read the question - how on earth would the brakes make any noise if your car aint moving that's what i wanna know!! lol!
Reply:Sounds like your fan belt is slipping.
Reply:maybe you have a cat in your car??? It sounds like brakes or possibly your tyres when going round bends. It could also be a belt thats slipped.
Reply:hi it sounds like one of your drive belts is slipping and need adjusting/replacing to take up the slack check your power steering belt or alternator belt and is the car auto??
Reply:It sounds almost certainly like it's a slipping belt. When you corner your power steering demands more effort from the pump or alternator, and that's making the belt slip. You may find this happens immediately after you start up too, it's the alternator putting power back into the battery and the extra work is putting more drag on the belt, making it slip.

Either tighten or replace the belt in question. Don't spray it with anything, that's pointless and stupid.
Reply:one of the belt ''slip'' could be alternator belt

please ask your mechanic to check the tension
Reply:check your breaks
