What type of refrigerant does a 1990 camry use r-134 or r-12?

im kinda rusty on this but didnt they tranfer to 134 a in 96 ?? anyway look under ur hood if its been retrofited it should have a new sticker if not it should still have a label under the hood telling you whats in your system and if not you can take your car in wereever you get it serviced and have your refrigerant id 'd if they have the proper equipment to do it

R-12, but can be converted.

i think r-12 you can tell by looking at the low pressure inlet valve it should be smaller for r-12, and big for r-134,hope that helps.
Reply:Either way, you can run R-134 in the AC. You'll surely need to have the system pumped down at this age to dry it out.

Reply:most of the time now. people will go to autozone and just buy a retro-fit kit. includes pieces that just thread on to old fittings and you put the freon in it. r-134 everyone is using or even converting the older cars to it.
