replace thermostat if it does not work replace water pump

Are you sure that it isn't circulating? it is normal for the coolant to run out when you open the radiator cap after its been running.. there is a bleeder screw on the back side of the engine. if the cooling system has been low, it may need to be bled. Is the electric fan coming on, when it starts to get hot? Most of the time, the problem is with the electric cooling fan that is attached to the radiator.. more specifically... the switch that activates the fan, when the engine temperature rises...
Reply:How do you know there is no circulation? You will need to bleed out the air-lock from engine to radiator. There will be no circulation untill the T/stat opens at operating temp. Check for fans to come on correctly (temp. switch) (fan relays) etc.
Reply:Check the operation of your thermostat as it doesn't allow circulation of coolant until the engine reaches a certain temperature. The easiest way to check is to take the radiator cap off with engine cold. Start it up and let it run while constantly checking the temperature of the coolant with your finger. When thermostat opens, you should feel the coolant start to warm up in the radiator. It's a sudden termperature change. Just be sure you start with a cold engine.
