I've been trying to repair some rust around my wheel arches. So far I've:
Sanded back to rusty/bare metal,
Then applied rust remover,
Filled with body filler %26amp; sanded down,
Applied primer.
I had been told to wet-sand (1200 grit) the primer, to smooth it down. I've tried this, and in some places it took the primer completely away! So I primed again, and wet-sanded again. Second time around I was more careful, but still I'm left with small areas of bare metal - about 3mm x 15-20mm.
Is it ok to paint over these small areas of bare metal with topcoat? I don't want to risk all of my prep work being for nothing!
Thanks

The PRIMER makes the paint stick better. For a short term you may not see any problems. In the long run you might get paint chipping off.
Good Luck...

Use the recommended primer and sand it gently after it has dried completely. Unless you let it dry, it will not hold.
