The lever to open my gas tank is rusted and I'm starting to not be able to move it at all. What should I do?

It's on my Chevy Optra, just wondering if this is a normal thing for Optras or cars with the gas lever on the floor? Or if this is something that should be covered under warranty?

Just Spray WD-40 On The Hing That Should Fix The Rust

Is your car still under warranty? If so, take it to your dealer, if not have the cable and handle replaced.
Reply:I'm guessing, because of the rust, that this isn't a new car, and the warranty is expired. Get a can of WD-40 and use that straw to shoot some lube down that cable. They have an oil "pen" that would probably do the job better. Before you get out the WD-40, buy some spray on lithium grease. Spray some on the cable end and work it a few times. That should be all you need.
Reply:I would vacuum and clean all the junk around the lever area if their is debris there. If you simply spray a lubricant on the hinge " which probably has a cable attached to it " the dirt and particles may gum it up more. Sure it may work a few times after . I would clean around it well then get my hands on a good graphite lube to use or call the dealer and ask which lube they recommend. Usually they will tell you.
Reply:spray it with a rust remover which you can purchase from any hardware store and repeat every two hours or so until it becoms free to move.it will work just keep on spraying.cheers
