Check engine light is flashing. 2005 Dodge Neon SXT Automatic Trany. 4 cycle.

The Psss sound could be just a vacuum leak. Cheap to fix.





But the low compression is a major $$$ repair cost. Either the valves are worn or your piston rings are worn (engine rebuild).

Reply:the problem is a compression problem you have to see if its the valves or bore or piston the problem. take plug three out pour a cap of engine oil down the plug hole fit tester turn over with foot flat on the throttle,if the compression increases. with the oil down it i s cylinder piston ring problem,if does not make any difference is a valve burnt
Reply:Guess what you've answered your own question. you've got a compression leak those come in the multiple choice catagory starting with bent/broken valve blown head gasket/improperlyinstalled sparkplug. The educated guess is gonna be blown head gasket because you described the pss pss sound which means the compression is escaping externally instead of internally (ring blowby)
